Volunteer Standards & Expectations
Volunteering with Deaf Florida, Inc. is more than showing up — it is a commitment to representing the Deaf, hard of hearing, and DeafBlind community with excellence, integrity, and pride.
As a Deaf Florida Volunteer, you are the face of our mission in the field. Every interaction you have — with the community, with partner organizations, with the public — reflects who we are and what we stand for. We hold our volunteers to a high standard because the community we serve deserves nothing less.
Deaf Florida Volunteers are expected to:
Show up prepared and on time. Your presence matters. When you commit to an event or responsibility, follow through reliably and professionally. The community and our partners count on you.
Represent Deaf Florida's mission with every action. You are not just a volunteer — you are an ambassador for accessibility, inclusion, and Deaf culture. Carry yourself accordingly in person, online, and in every communication.
Lead with a servant's heart. Volunteering is about uplifting others, not personal recognition. Put the needs of the community, your team, and your partner organization first.
Communicate proactively and professionally. If something changes, speak up early. Keep your team leads informed, respond to messages promptly, and never leave anyone wondering where you stand.
Respect the culture. Deaf Florida exists to serve the Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and DeafBlind community. Every volunteer is expected to honor Deaf culture, uphold the dignity of ASL, and approach all community members with genuine respect and sensitivity.
Embrace a growth mindset. Be open to feedback. Be willing to learn. The best volunteers are the ones who ask questions, seek guidance, and continuously improve.
Be a team player. No one succeeds alone. Support your fellow volunteers, lift each other, and bring positive energy that strengthens the team around you.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Anything discussed internally — about community members, partner organizations, or organizational strategy — stays internal. Trust is the foundation of everything we build.
This is a high-honor role.
Not everyone earns the privilege of wearing the Deaf Florida name. Those who do carry a responsibility to represent the best of our community — with consistency, passion, and a deep commitment to the people we serve.
We are not building something ordinary. We are building a movement. And we need volunteers who are ready to rise to that standard.
Welcome to Deaf Florida, Inc. — where the bar is high because the community we serve deserves the best.
